Brightboxe DLP Projector Reviews

I bought mine for < $100 at Target. It is a 40 Lumen projector (800:1 contrast ratio) with LED bulbs that is compatible at 640x480, 800x600, 1024 x 768 @ 60hz. It will project an image up to 100 inches if you can place it 15 feet from the target screen/wall.The good: The Brightboxe is very inexpensive. The DLP projection unit will take a very, very long time befor it burns out. It is relatively light weight. It has connector compability with VGA connectors and Composite audio/video. In a dark room it projects a clean clear picture for either the WII or standard definition TV or VGA level computer use. The bad: It has a built in speaker but you will never want to use it as the quality is too scratchy. It can only do 854x480 resolution natively so other higher resolutions are "compatible" but not as good. The power cable is kind of short and the VGA connector is of low quality... It's not a "great" computer projector and it only does composite for consoles, DVD, etc. but it's not being marketed as a mid-to-high end projector solution- and it works as advertised unlike the prior half-dozen or so attempts in this space. This is probably because of them using the Pico DLP engine as opposed to LCD panels, MR16 halogen spots, and the like. You can't get decent contrast or light levels while doing those sorts of things- the projector in the case of the other attempts was only usable in near total darkness. Not so with this one. Having said this, it still needs help because it's only projecting 40 ANSI Lumens of light on the surfaces it's shining on, after all.Pros: Inexpensive Works amazingly well in medium to low/no-light conditions in a 10'x10' room- especially with something like a projector... I was looking for a plasma tv for my room. But I saw this at target and bought it. It saved me hundreds of dollars. I wasn't disappointed. The colors are rich, the images are bright and crystal clear. You can connect it up to your computer and surf the web on a 100 inch screen. I painted the wall white with flat latex paint for my screen. I love coming home and watching movies with this projector. If you connect it up to a dvd player disable progressive scan. I don,t know how the speaker sounds on it cause I have my sound connected to the surround sound on the stereo. |
