I am a total novice when it comes to networking but I was able to set this up with a simple SMB share which I needed. I also set up a spare USB printer, and made it a network printer. I attached a Vantec CX USB external enclosure and a 2Tb Western Digital Green drive without any problems.Cons: Seems to run a little warm, but the case is vented, and it is not too hot to be of concern, at least for me. I can't really say much about its speed because I have no referece device to compare it to. Also, the drive attached has to be formatted FAT32 which is pretty standard for this type of adapter. It also only supports one drive, and up to a 2Tb limit, it is not really a con, it is just the way these adapters are. SATA I/II to USB 3.0 External Enclosure in which I installed a Seagate SATA 3 2TB hard drive. You need to either check your DHCP server's logs to find out what the IP is, or simply use the included java based utility on the Vantec CD-ROM. After you know what the current IP address is, simply type that into your web browser. Default username and password are both 'admin'.I am using this device along with a Corsair 16GB USB flash drive to store images taken from a wireless IP camera. Configuration was very simple and so far everything is working great. The camera stores images on the flash drive via FTP and I can view them via the Samba share on a windows computer. My only complaint is the slow speed of file transfers. This is only a USB 2.0 device and that appears to be the main bottleneck. I am seeing transfer speeds of 2MB/sec which is quite slow.
